Description: The course examines advanced networking architectures proposed for expanding the functionality of Internet architecture. In the first part, the basic concepts of Internet architecture are presented. Then, several architectures successfully implemented in the Internet are delineated. Those include techniques for QoS such as IntServ and DiffServ, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), overlay networks, etc. In the last part, we examine state-of-the-art proposed approaches such as Software Defined Networking (SDN), Νetwork Function Virtualization (NFV) and Network Slicing. Summarizing, the following will be examined during the course: • Basic concepts of Internet architecture (intra-AS and inter-AS routing, OSPF, BGP) • Integrated Services (IntServ), Differentiated Services (DiffServ) • Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) • Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), MPLS-VPN, • Overlay Networks, Content Distribution Networks (CDNs), • Software Defined Networking (SDN) • Network function virtualization (NFV) • Network Slicing
