Basic Circuit Theory (Digital Circuits)

Γενικά

The course "Basic Circuit Theory" is taugh on the year of studies of the Computer Science and Engineering Department. With this course the student becomes familiar with the design and implementation of basic digital and electrical circuits. The course has two parts:

  • Theory: 14 lectures on the basic dsciplines of the digital circuit design. Every lecture is a 2-hours lecture and includes both theory and exercises.

  • Laboratory Exercises: in 4 laboratory exercises the student implements digital circuits using an educational kit with SSI chips of the family74LSXX.

Matterial

The main course matterial includes the following topics:

  • Arithmetic Systems,  Binary Codes, Logic Gates

  • Boolean Algebra, Standard Forms

  • Simplification, Karnaugh maps, Unknown Conditions

Lectures (in Greek)

Binary Arithmetic Systems
Boolean Algebra
Simlification
Combinational Logic

Lab Regulations

  • Every lab exercise is implemented by pairs of students.

  • The exercises are supervised by the teaching assistants.

  • One fully justified nonappearance is permitted (either one not officially justified notappearance or more than one notappearances do not permit the student to take the final exam and the student has to repeat the lab exercises the following academic year).

  • The last weeks of the semester one special lab session is done where every student can implement any missing exercise. All those students with one notappearance are obliged to particiapate in this session.

  • In the last week of the semester the student takes a lab examination.

Final Grade

The student has to pass the lab examination in order to be able to take the written exam in the theory part. A successful lab examination permts the student to take the written exam in the current academic year or any following academic year.

The final grade for the course is the written-exam score.
